Membership and Participation:

All players must subscribe to both the main list and the OOC list.  Players may not have a "web-only" account...if you take on a character you are agreeing to accept Emails from the main group, whether individual or daily digest.  For the OOC list, players may use the "special notice" only feature, but it's not recommended.

Lurkers may use web-only on either list

Do not post OOC (out of character) or OT (off topic) things to the main list.  Those are for the OOC list, which is mandatory for all players.

We want active players.  If you join this game, as a general rule, you should be able to post every other day for active characters.  (Obviously if your character has nothing to do, he or she need not be posted.)  Once a day is preferable.  If a player needs to leave game for a while, he or she needs to tell the GMs and get characters temped or out of the way beforehand.  (We know sudden things like no computer or emergencies happen, but when possible always give notice.)

If you and another player are fighting, keep it out of the game.  If players have a problem, you need to contact one or both of the GMs.

Roleplay:

All players and their characters must be approved for play before they participate.  Profiles needed for canons and customs alike...as it's so far in the future.

For those whose writing style the GMs are not familiar with, a writing sample will be required before you begin.

If you have plans for a major event or plot that involves others’ characters, do get the players’ permission before you force them into this plot.  Also, if there is a big plot going on that does not involve your player, don’t try and force your character into it, especially if he would not realistically be involved.  There’s plenty of plot for anyone.

Do not control others' character, nor post what others' characters notice or see.  Stick to your own characters' actions and perceptions.

Do not god-mode or metagame.  This means that if your character does something to another character...do not decide if it succeeds or not.  And if you as a player know something about plot or another character, that does not mean your character knows.  Nor does it mean that you are allowed to have your character do what's needed for him to find out, unless there is reasonable cause for it.

No child death allowed.  No NPCs or other characters (including people's own characters) will be allowed to die in this game unless they are fifteen or over.  There can be child death in character backgrounds (in explicit descriptions.)  This also goes for sexual situations.  No character under fifteen.  Kids under fifteen can be boyfriend/girlfriend (no sex) only with someone close to their own age.

Canon structures may not be destroyed without GM approval.  Same goes with game-created structures.  Individual characters' homes may not be destroyed except with their players' approval.

In your post, you must specify the character speaking.  If you don't put your character name at the top of the post, at least it must be in narration.  Often I see a post saying "she", and have no clue who's talking and acting.

Characters:

There is a limit on how many characters any one player can have (not including Hogwarts students.)  For non-students (including children not yet at Hogwarts), that number is 6.  For each custom you play, you MUST play a canon also.  No exceptions.   Furthermore, for each good guy you play, you must also play a bad guy.  (If you have an odd number of characters, you may have one more good or bad guy...but if we end up having too many goodies, we'll start not allowing them.)

For Hogwarts students , you may have three in addition to your adults - at least one should be of evil alliance if you take all three.  It is advised to take a canon student as well, if there is one available.

Note that only active roleplayers will be allowed th full cap!  If you are not an active roleplayer, you will not be allowed the full amount.

If you want major powers of skills for your character that were not in the originally approved version, you MUST have GM approval and will generally be expected to gain them in game and have a good story behind it.

Keep your canon characters canon!  Feel free to  put your own spin on them (everyon sees them differently) but make sure they are kept in character.

NO crossover characters allowed!  Even characters based on another genre will have to be extremely well done to be allowed.  All characters must fit into the HP mood and genre we've established.  This is Harry Potter; let's play Harry Potter.

HAVE FUN!
This is a game, guys. It's not "let's see how many people I can prove my character's stronger and better than" and it's not "let's kill anything that moves" and it's not "let's be a power-hungry tyrant". 'Tis a game, and games are meant to be fun. It's a story, a world. Not a popularity contest. So, have fun!
